Detoxification- the bigger picture Detoxification has become a buzz word bandied about these days by all and sundry but sadly it is often not accompanied by much real understanding on the subject and it has also fallen prey to the “quick fix” merchants promising instant miracles. So I thought it would be helpful to give you my take on the bigger picture with regard to the business of “detoxing”. If you are receiving our newsletter or reading this article you are already most likely sold on the need for detoxing as you will be aware of the vast array of toxins our bodies are forced to cope with on a daily basis just because we are living in the 21st century. Many of you have come to investigate the business of detoxification precisely because you have “hit the wall” so to speak with the failure of allopathic approaches so convincing you of the need to detox may be superfluous. Suffice it to say that the 2 most significant reasons to detox are:- · We know, at least intuitively, that we need to clean up our bodies and our lifestyles. Many of us feel we are not functioning at full potential or we have been diagnosed with something serious. We have tried a host of allopathic and possibly even complementary approaches but the problems are not gone and we have this niggling feeling that we should be able to do something more to feel better. We are right to attempt to detox as we know our lifestyles are toxic. The truth is our bodies are bombarded by a host of poisonous compounds every day most of which we are blissfully unaware of. They may be in small amounts but cumulatively we know they must be having an effect on our state of health. Getting informed so that we can make better choices regarding our exposure levels is in fact paramount and there are many books written on the subject if you care to look. Dr Clark is of course the master of this subject and her books are available from Natural Healing. Essentially trying to “Detox” without understanding where the toxins are coming from can be a temporary fix at best as you will continue to be exposed to the same toxins and will likely recreate the problem sooner or later. · Another reason to consider detoxing is the fact that generally our immune systems are much more compromised than those of our grandparents because of normal 21st century living and as a consequence we have far bigger issues with parasites and chronic infective processes than they ever would have had. So included in any good detoxification process should be a cleanup of parasites and this may be a far bigger job than simply taking a standard dewormer from the chemist. Researchers like Dr Hulda Clark in fact are claiming that solvents and other toxins not only damage the functioning of our white blood cells (the cells that kill invaders) but that they also in fact can damage the mucous membranes in the body to the point that we no longer have any real defences to stop these organsims migrating and breeding throughout our bodies- scary thought!!! She in fact has coined the term “Fluke disease” to describe this process and believes it is implicated in many of the so called new diseases including cancer, AIDS, Lupus, Alzheimers, Gallstones, MS, CFS, Diabetes etc. So what are the most important elements of a good detox regime? 1) Be willing to get informed and to make some permanent changes to reduce your overall exposure to toxins, be they from your diet, your home, your body products or your teeth. 2) Get informed on the issue of better nutrition- this is not about popping a multivitamin because many of them will come with their own contaminants from the cleaning agents and processing and they may not be easily assimilated especially if your digestion is already compromised. The basics are to:- · Eat more raw food (ideally 70% in fact), · Eat more fruit and vegetables- preferably organic or hot washed (soak in hot water for 1 minute and dry- Repeat after 10minutes. This removes the oily pesticide residues from the food) · Include the “good oils” in your diet (like nuts, seeds, avos, oily fish- choose wild salmon over farmed fish as there is mercury and pcb contamination otherwise) · Reduce acid forming foods (like fizzy drinks, meat, grains, tea, and foods preserved with sodium benzoate etc) · Reduce unhealthy fats (heated oils, processed fats in things like biscuits, margarine and junk food). Use only organic olive oil, butter, lard or organic coconut oil for cooking- all other oils should not be heated as they become toxic. · Reduce or eliminate processed foods like commercial drinks, cold cereals, packaged foods like soups, prepared meals, sauces etc- most come with solvent pollution, preservatives dyes etc- Best to prepare food from scratch with fresh ingredients. See Natural Healing’s “Food Rules” for more details · Reduce your consumption of wheat products especially refined wheat as this tends to congest the colon. Choose wholegrains rather then refined grains for better nutrition and higher fibre content. · Reduce or eliminate dairy products altogether or start eating only boiled dairy products like boiled milk, butter and cream. Especially for those with chronic digestive issues and headaches this will remove the source of many pathogens from your diet. · Make sure all the meat you eat is well cooked and avoid raw or processed meats as these supply a host of pathogens which may be replicating and migrating in your system. · Pay attention to improving the hygiene of your food by not eating with dirty hands, washing foods thoroughly (Consider soaking all food for 3 minutes in a 5% BP grade Hydrochloric acid solution) 3) Drink more water preferably on an empty stomach or at least 45 minutes before food or 2 hours after food- first thing in the morning is ideal for a few good glasses. 4) Cut down or eliminate stimulants and other mood altering substances like sugar, coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. This will not only remove the source of many toxins but will also stop the wasting of many vital nutrients which the body must use up to combat them. (Patrick Holford has a good cd on “How to quit without feeling sh****t) 5) Preferably work with an informed practitioner to help you set up a properly managed detox regime. Using the basic Clark process as the cornerstone of any regime will ensure it contains all the fundamental aspects including deworming and cleaning of the elimination organs (kidneys, colon, lymph and liver). The basic process may not be sufficient in all cases however. Understand that the body needs support to detox and may require extra nutrition to do so. It is also best to detox slowly over a period of time rather than to flood the body with toxins that it may not be able to handle as this can lead to other problems. This is why fasting regimes can often simply move the problem around. It is best to get the extra nutrition from your food rather than relying too heavily on supplementation. You will need · Extra amino acids ( ˝ liter of homemade broth a day is a good source of amino acids) If you can get hormone free meat that is preferable. · Extra essential fatty acids (EFA’s). An organic oil mix to use as salad dressing will give you extra EFA’s as long as you cut out the processed oils and reduce animal fats. You could also consider a good quality salmon oil supplement but again be careful it is not full of pcb’s and mercury. · Extra vitamins especially B vitamins. Improving your diet and adding an organic “green” food (like barley green or fresh green vegetable juice- one or two glasses at most) may help here but if you are stressed or using stimulants you may need to take a b-complex as well. You will need 3 basic supplements · A good Vitamin C (many are polluted with thullium) so use a clean ascorbic acid (available from Natural Healing) or use organic rosehip; · Selenium- a supplement (200-400mcg a day) with 4-5 brazil nuts a day is optimal; · A source of germanium- hydrangea root is best (10 drops 3 x day- more may clean your kidneys too fast). Horseradish and goji berries also contain germanium. 6) Don’t be in a hurry to embark on a parasite cleanup without support as you may react violently especially if your parasite levels are high and your immunity is low. It is often advisable to first unblock the elimination organs (Dr Clark’s elimination drops can help to do this) and to repair immunity to some extent. Just cleaning up your diet/lifestyle alone can help do this. 7) Clean up your home to remove sources of both pathogens and toxins. Some aspects of this may include · Cleaning your carpets, upholstery and mattresses- (use our borax, alcohol and iodine recipe- it will even keep the pests like fleas away). Consider one of our pet or allergy vacuum cleaners. We have new Dysan machines in stock- they are awesome!! · Put your pets on the pet parasite program · Read the books to understand issues related to asbestos, water pipes etc that may be sources of toxicity · Get rid of all the toxic cleaning compounds in the house- put everything that smells into a dustbin bag and put it in the garage. Find clean alternatives- see the recipes in the books eg borax for laundry and floors, bicarb for scouring and vinegar for windows. 8) Clean up your body products. Most of the commercial products we use on our bodies, hair and faces contain solvents, dyes, metals, benzene, petroleum products etc and are a great contributor to our overall burden of toxicity. The Clark books have loads of simple recipes or try our range of soaps, toothpaste, sanitaryware, shampoos etc. 9) Study the dental sections in the new books if you want to consider cleaning up your dentalware. Be sure you are well informed before you go near a dentist as the plastic dental material can in fact be more hazardous than the metal. Now lets broaden the picture even more by suggesting that you consider that detoxing goes more than skin deep. Essentially the thought forms you entertain, the feelings you hold onto even unconsciously and the belief systems that drive you are likely the real source of toxicity in your body. Unprocessed emotions like rage, guilt, grief, fear and shame are more toxic to your system than any toxin we may be exposed to in the physical world. My belief in fact is that essentially all sickness comes down to the toxicity stored in your energetic system and in fact there appears to be some kind of symbolism inherent in the kind of symptoms the body displays and the kinds of disturbances that exist on the energy level. For example where an individual has low emotional immunity, the physical immune system will generally also be compromised! It becomes a fascinating process to look for what your body may be telling you about the way you function in the world energetically!! Efforts to clean up the physical body are helpful partly in that they rely to some extent on a shift in consciousness which proclaims your intention to support yourself better and to assume greater responsibility for your wellbeing. This is in fact the reason many times we look for a quick fix regarding our physical health or we are unable to sustain the kind of lifestyle we know would help us. Making the decision to be healthier and more energised in fact must lead inevitably to an inward journey of some sort which allows you to connect more deeply with yourself and with your maker. There are many tools you can use to facilitate this process and if you are not sure where to begin find a reputable energy healer or come to us so that we can guide you. Some of the tools I recommend are
So I encourage you to reassess your physical health alongside your emotional state and your state of consciousness and to engage in both processes together. They are inextricably linked and each will support the other. Make it a joyful process of discovery and empowerment and you may discover that your health challenges may in fact be your greatest gift and the perfect invitation to heal yourself at a deep level. It is your choice. Energy Diagnostics and Healing Natural Healing embraces what has now become called “quantum healing”. Much has been written and taught on the subject by leaders in the field like Deepak Chopra, Carolyn Myss and Brandon Bays. This kind of healing is based on the work of many so called quantum physicists who have developed a new way of looking at the world and the body that is somewhat at odds with the traditional Newtonian perspective. Science has for many years operated on a mechanical model of the universe which sees the body like a machine. Allopathic medicine has of course operated from this perspective and seeing the body like a machine, strives to fix it by replacing old parts or removing them (much like one would do with a car or any other machine). We traditionally thought that the brain was the engine behind the machine but quantum physicists are now telling us that the body is in fact really just energy. It is not nearly as solid as we think and in fact if you look closely enough you will see that each cell is mostly fresh air with a few electrically charged particles, many of which are jumping in and out of existence!!. In fact they tell us that the body is much like the cosmos, mostly space. So they ask what exactly is driving this machine if not the brain like we previously assumed? They are now using the word consciousness (scientists of all people!) to describe the mysterious phenomenon that appears to create and sustain the body. Much work of course has been done to try to measure the body energetically and to define it more precisely in these terms and technologies have developed over the years to try to capture or photograph this so called energy system. Kirlian, a Russian scientist, many years ago developed a technique to photograph this energy and these days many healing modalities talk about the so called “aura” In fact most of the ancient complementary healing modalities like Chinese acupuncture, ayurveda, pranic healing etc have all talked about the body’s life force in one or other way but until the age of quantum physics this has remained in the realm of ancient wisdom. Quantum physics is however now beginning to make sense of these traditions and explaining that this so called “consciousness” is essentially the thing that drives the machine. You could think of it as the breath, the chi, the spirit, life force or whatever other term you choose to use but whatever you call it they are telling us that the quality of this force is the real indicator of vitality or sickness. They can even predict from a kirlian picture of a leaf, that it is dying even before one can see physical evidence of the fact. Much the same can be done for humans and sickness shows up in disturbances of this energy system. Dr Clark is bridging the gap to some extent between quantum and Newtonian physics in that she, like other researchers before her, claims that everything has a frequency that can be measured and using the principle of resonance one can both detect and treat pathogens and toxins. Well known technologies like the scio have basically built on this understanding. Of course the real question then has to be what factors influence the strength of this energy system and what disturbs it. One thing that appears to be clear is that what one feels, thinks, believes or holds in ones “consciousness” appears to make a big difference to the state of energy. Essentially what quantum physics is teaching us is that by changing your state of consciousness and your emotional state one can positively influence the state of the physical body. This is not a stretch even for the Newtonian physicists to accept because it has been well documented that ones feelings create a cascade of chemicals in the body, the positive ones act to improve immunity and the negative ones can suppress immunity. In fact good feelings can even produce chemicals like interferon and interleukin traditionally used by oncologists for cancer treatment and of course it is freely made by the body!! So what does this all mean? Many times sick people are told to “be positive” because we know intuitively that this is necessary for healing but trying to be positive by avoiding our negative feelings does not and cannot trick the body into healing. The process has to be deeper than that and ironically the process of healing the energy system appears to come with the need to feel, process and release whatever toxic emotions may be held in the energy system. Of course much of what we may be holding in our energy systems is being held precisely because it was never adequately processed or released and was then buried somewhere in the realms of the unconscious mind. So whilst counselling and therapy may be helpful to bring understanding to our issues “cognitively” unless we can effectively change the energy system real healing may elude us. So what do we know about the energy system? Many traditions tell us that the body is essentially a by product of the energy system and that this energy permeates the physical body as well as reaching beyond the body in a kind of bubble. We also know that the energy appears to move in and through the body in some way much like breathing and that when this energy is not moving freely, is stuck or blocked or in some way depleted, the physical body begins to show signs of distress or disease. We all know at least unconsciously that we can “feel” one another’s energy. Some people leave us feeling drained, others leave us feeling energised. We can tell if someone is upset or angry just by the energy emanating from them without them even having to say or do anything. We relegate this to the realm of intuition and denigrate its significance because it does not meet our criteria for rationality and of course the age of reason does not encourage such silliness. But there are growing numbers of so called energy healers who have refined their intuitive sense to the point that they can accurately perceive the energy of other people to the point that they can “see” where the energy is blocked and even why. Some can also “see” disease and they are called “medical intuitives”. Dr Norman Shealy , the neurosurgeon who is famous for having worked with Carolyn Myss, the well known medical intuitive in fact conducted experiments to test the accuracy of many so called medical intuitives and he maintains their accuracy in “diagnosing” physical problems are on average 80-95%. This of course flies in the face of everything we think we know from a rational perspective. And what about the increasing talk about energy healing? We are of course all familiar with faith healers and many of us put this down to the power of autosuggestion which of course may well be valid in many cases. But there is an increasingly amount of research available which expressly documents a shift in the energy system as a result of the intervention of an energy healer of one sort or another. Also there are the so called “anomalies” in which people are seen to have what is called by the medical fraternity “spontaneous remission”. Quantum physics is the only modality which can come close to explaining these inexplicable events. From a quantum physics perspective such “miracle cures” can be explained by a shift in “consciousness” and the resultant shift in the energy system underlying the physical body. So assuming there is some merit in the age old healing arts, what can they teach us about the energy system? What they all appear to point to is that to be healthy one needs vitality and flow of the body’s energy. They also suggest that this can be influenced by a change in consciousness and or by some kind of energy intervention by a trained practitioner. Many traditions describe the energy system as having key points (chakras) through which “life force” energy flows into, through and out of the body. To improve energy flow one needs to release whatever may be blocking it. Practitioners like Carolyn Myss, Brandon Bays and Deepak Chopra all point to the need to heal the spirit or the state of consciousness to facilitate healing of the physical body. This means essentially that healing at a deeper level requires more than just medicine, be it allopathic or natural. It requires embarking on some sort of spiritual or emotional journey to uncover and release whatever energy blocks may be present. Essentially whatever one fights in oneself consumes energy and depletes the system, be it guilt, shame, self criticism, rage, anger, fear etc. It is the resistance to life itself that sets up the resistance in the energy system to its own life force. What does this mean- to be healthy one has to be happy? Pretty much! But this is a tall order! Does this mean a narcissistic self indulgence in the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain? Quite the opposite. It means opening oneself to God, to ourselves and to others and this includes the capacity to give up all resistance to life, to ourselves and to others. It means a process of spiritual awakening in the deepest sense and the willingness to fully feel and experience life. It means accessing the buried emotional debris in our energy systems and allowing it to flow through us. This in fact may the hardest work of all as this may require deep self introspection and the willingness to fully feel our pain and let it go. Natural Healing therefore encourages all who are interested in healing to explore these ideas alongside any physical program and we offer a variety of services and products to assist you in this process. · Medical intuitive diagnosis- includes information on physical issues as well as energy body issues (face to face or long distance). is the founder of Natural Healing. She was born in Pietermaritzburg in Natal, South Africa in 1962; graduated from the university of Natal with a BA in Psychology and English literature in 1983; worked for many years in marketing, training and recruitment; before running her own successful management development and training business in Johannesburg. She was however increasingly plagued with ill health for over 20 years including both chronic and life threatening diseases and she was finally bedridden, wheelchair bound and unable to work for over 4 years. Her battle with disease included a long history with severe ME, Depression, Acute and chronic gastric disturbances, bronchitis, chronic headaches, hashimotos hypothyroiditis, chronic candida, brain function disturbances, insomnia amongst others as well as with ovarian and bone cancer. Having come from a family of allophathic practitioners, her desperation to improve her health led her increasingly to explore non traditional approaches which embraced the Clark and other complementary approaches as well as spiritual healing modalities like energy healing and Brandon Bays Journey work. Having regained her health she established Natural healing in November 1998 to assist others in their healing journeys. She now works in conjunction with allophathic and complementary therapists as well as with individuals to provide tools, products and training to facilitate wholistic healing. Natural Healing manufactures a range of herbal, lifestyle and other natural products , many of which support the implementation of the renowned Dr Clark protocols and Shelley provides consultations, coaching and seminars on these programs. She has also become a well regarded diagnostic medical intuitive and energy healer, working with people all over the world. She recently established a “healing current” day once a month to offer a free healing service to those in the area or via photographs for those who are not. It is supported by other healers offering their services and involves 2 hour silent meditation sessions. She is happy and healthy and taken up dancing again! To make an appointment with Shelley, to attend one of her seminars or to attend the “healing current” please contact Natural Healing’s offices.
